About Me
My name is Amelia Helzberg. I grew up in Aspen, Colorado, with three older brothers and one younger brother. I grew up going to Aspen Country Day School. It was an incredibly unique experience. I then followed in my older brothers’ footsteps and went to boarding school at Hotchkiss. At Hotchkiss, I volunteer as a Proctor, which means I live alongside the younger students, which has afforded me the opportunity to get to know them. I am also an Orientation Leader, a role in which I help the 9th graders acclimate to the changes that come with moving to boarding school. Furthermore, I work with One Love, an organization that spreads awareness and educates people and communities about domestic violence. Additionally, I serve as a Peer Listener, a member of the Student Wellness Council, a member of the Jewish club, and the Council of Student Interviewers. I have also been a singer my whole life and further explored that interest at Hotchkiss.
My interest in mental health derives from my life experiences and my experiences at Hotchkiss. I have seen first-hand how mental health can affect young adults and kids, which has led me to work for The Student Wellness Council, where I help design and organize mental health programming for Hotchkiss students. Losing my father in the spring of 2023 inspired me to help youth affected by the struggles of having a loved one with suicidal thoughts or the loss of a loved one to suicide. My loss has encouraged me to start the Compassionate Connections Campaign as a way to get involved with supporting youth affected by suicide and its consequences. I want to ensure they have access to a positive support network since I was lucky to have Aspen, Hotchkiss, and family and friends to lean on. Through the Compassionate Connections Campaign, I hope to facilitate a community of empowerment and support by building positive relationships.
